Reckless Love

Can the love of God ever be fully explained by man? Probably not but we have many songs, books, and sermons all about the unfailing love that God has for us. The term love can be preached over several different ways giving way to many different definitions and interpretations of the word. The emotion of love can spark the greatest of fires while the smallest drop of love can extinguish the largest wildfire. There is no greater love than the love of our creator. A love that can move mountains. A love that no man can truly understand. Is there any man that can understand his own heart or even control it? I doubt it. From the heart flows every emotion whether it be love, hate, fear, anxiety, happiness, or sadness. We learn from scripture that it is our hearts after all that control us. Evil desires form in our hearts when we let negative emotions enter in and those evil desires sooner or later make way to the surface of our life. In Mathew 15: 18-20 Jesus is explaining to the Pharisees that their hearts are unclean. It reads: “But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man unclean. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what makes a man unclean” God does not care about anything but our hearts! We can be the most attractive, smartest, tallest, and most physically fit person but if our hearts are not pure then none of that matters! Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Everything we do! It is incredible how much capacity our hearts have. We don’t realize just how much flows through our hearts and out our mouths. There is only one way to guard our hearts, only one way to truly protect our hearts and that is through the peace of God “which transcends all understanding” as said in Proverbs 4:7. Committing our hearts to the Lord and hiding His word deep inside us will keep evil desires from entering in. Psalms 73:26 says, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” There are so many more verses about our hearts and the importance of them to God and the importance of guarding them from evil. I encourage you all to look them up and see for yourselves just how much the Bible talks about the heart. Now I want to go back and talk about the love of God some more. There is a song called Reckless Love by Cory Asbury that has taken hold of my heart due to the power behind the lyrics. God’s love is reckless in the sense that He will do anything He can or wants to do to love you. Take a moment to think about how good God has been in your life. God has given us so many blessings that we must thank Him daily for them. Every morning you wake up is a blessing, every meal you eat is a blessing, every smile that comes your way is a blessing, every family member and friend are blessings. The biggest blessing of all though is God’s grace and mercy given to us through Jesus Christ. Lamentations 3:22-23 perfectly explains this to us: “Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” God’s Love is great. Greater than any love this earth has to offer. If we have a shadow in our lives, a dark place that we try to cover up, God’s love will light that shadow up so that you are filled with brightness. God will move mountains to get to you when you are weak and will never leave you behind when you are in need. The wall that you build to try to hide your regrets, shame, or mistakes, will be kicked down by the His love. They will matter no more because the love of God is so much greater than any mistake or regret. Any lie that you try to tell God will be vanished by His love. When you try to act like your life is all together and you have no worries, God will tear that lie apart and give you everything you need to get through life. When you get so distant from God and your spiritual life can’t get any worse, He will chase you down and bring you back! You are never too far to call upon God for help. He loves us so much that He will fight for us. He will rip through the imperfections of our human nature and find our hearts, our true selves, and see Jesus Christ, and then He will pick us up and carry us back to the path He set for us. We are children of God and there is no greater love than the love of a father especially the Father of the universe. The Father who created love and gave us His love and will never ever stop loving us! A love that we don’t deserve at all! A love that we are incapable of earning due to our sinful nature. A love that is freely given to us from God himself. God has a plan for our lives. We stray off this path all the time due to worldly and sinful desires. Sometimes God, out of reckless love, will do things, put things or people, or change things in our lives that may cause some pain but always remember that He does it out of love for the betterment of your life because God hates seeing his children on paths that lead to death. When God saw that the world was overcome with sin and all his children were headed straight for the grave, He gave us his one and only son, Jesus, to die a sinners death so His children could find their way back to Him and live for eternity with Him in heaven. He wants us with Him for eternity so we can sing praises and worship without ceasing because He loves us and will do anything to help us get there. Always remember to fill your heart with love and kindness and let God help guard it from evil because what comes out of your mouth and what stirs in your mind comes from your heart. I want to end with Luke 21:34-36 which reads: “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”
