To Want

It is natural for us as humans to want things. Whether it be the newest iPhone or the want to be popular we all have been in want. Have you ever wanted something so bad that you would do anything to get it? If the answer is yes, then keep that thought in mind. Think of something that you have always wanted. Maybe it is a successful career or a great relationship with a loved one. Whatever it may be, have you ever wanted to follow God as badly as you wanted that one thing?

Shouldn’t living like Jesus be the greatest want in our life? For parents, the want to raise their children in Christ should be one of the only wants in their life. Husbands should want to lead their families like the Bible has commanded them to. Wanting worldly things will get you nowhere! Psalms 23:1 says “The Lord is my shepard, I shall not be in want.” Don’t long after the idea of being rich or successful because true richness is found through the grace of God. Do not long after the fancy clothes or new things, because we must be thankful for what God has given us. Instead of wanting new things, find joy in the what you already have! Maybe it is a family that loves you or an old faithful vehicle that has gotten you from place to place, and above all else, find joy in Jesus Christ. Belshazzar was “found wanting” in Daniel 5:27 which led to the loss of his kingdom and his life. He was wanting after the wrong thing which led to his downfall. Wanting the wrong things leads to sin. We see something that God has not placed in our life and we think about how great that would be for us. Even though it may go against God’s plan, we want it for worldly satisfaction. That is why we must think about what we want in life. Even the little things could have a big impact. Next time you want something, pray about it! Will this want help your walk with Christ? My challenge is for every Christian to want to grow in their faith every day, and to not let a worldly want be greater than God’s plan for your life.
