Worship

This past Sunday I caught a glimpse of heaven. At church during the morning service, there was a group of children from Africa that were here to lead the worship for us. They were dressed in their own African garments and used instruments native to their culture. They sang in English even though they weren’t very fluent in it, and I couldn’t quite understand the words, but the words of the songs isn’t what stood out to me. It was the way they sang the songs that almost brought tears to my eyes. Every single one of them danced and shouted praises around the stage. The way they danced was truly amazing. These kids were praising God with everything they had. They raised their hands, jumped up and down, and even fell to their knees at one point. I can only imagine that is what heaven will be like! Watching them worship made me realize how worship was so much more than just singing and raising hands. Worship should come from the Holy Spirit inside of us causing us to breakout in praise from the inside. We should be filled with joy at the thought of God. So much joy that we can’t help but to let it out! Even if that means dancing, bowing, shouting, or singing, we should give God the praise He deserves! Fill your heart with the words of praises and let the music move inside you. If you suppress your heart with the wrong music then your actions will soon follow. Be careful not to let ungodly music take control of your mind. You may not think music has influence in your life, but I sometimes catch myself singing song lyrics with curse words in them which is completely wrong. Aside from music, worship can be doing something that pleases God and giving Him the glory. True worship is defined by the priority we place on who God is in our lives. Living a holy life with a heartfelt desire to truly please God and praise Him is definitely worship. Do not just praise God because of His wealthiness, rather praise Him for His worthiness. He is so worthy of our praise! God gives us the promise that He will always be with us if we worship with extravagant love and submission. The singing, hand-raising, dancing, and bowing means nothing if our hearts are not true. Do not just worship out of fear of the Lord by itself. Take that fear and combine it with the love, faith, and joy you have for the Lord. Worship wherever and whenever you please. Never let someone keep you from praising the God of the universe. Paul never stopped praising! In every jail cell he continued to pour out his soul for Christ. In that way, we should never cease praising the one true king! The God who showed us love, mercy, and compassion. The savior who gave us life. Let us seek Him in everything we do, every decision we make, and every minute we are breathing on this Earth! For He is worthy and deserves it all.
