Power of The Word

Words in the Bible have incredible power behind them. Today we use words so casually that many of them lose their seriousness. The Bible tells us that people stood in awe of Jesus. In today's world, the newest video game or iPhone is also considered awesome. Does that sound right? To compare Jesus with an iPhone? I want us to understand that even the smallest words in the Bible are important. When it says God is good, you better believe that God is is better than anything else imaginable.

"Good" in society today would be a burger from Whataburger. I'm not saying to stop calling worldly items good or awesome, but I am rather reminding you what the true awesome and good is. God's creations are good. In Genesis, God doesn't say His creations were amazing or astounding. No, He simply says they are good. As simple as the word "good" seems, in the Bible it has power behind it. Idolatry is everywhere in this world. Idols form when we put something or someone else before God. We view these idols as being more "good" than God or more "awesome" than Jesus. That is crazy! To think something of this world can be better for you than the love of Christ is foolish. The difference between a worldly "good" and a the goodness of God is that God's goodness will never end. These idols we find good know not what true love is. Putting a family member or spouse above God is idolatry. God must be over everything and everyone in our lives. We may put our whole life into following or pursuing these idols but for what? They will not last! After all love comes from God, and idols are not of God. Romans 12:9 tells us to cling to what is good. So I urge you to hold on to the goodness of God. Love is another word tossed around aimlessly today. Do people even realize what love is? It is said in the Bible that love is the greatest emotion that exists in a human. It is the fulfillment of the law as said in Romans 13:10. The greatest commandment of all is to love your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. We know that God is love and love comes from God, so where does our love come from if we forfeit a relationship with Him? In John 15:9 Jesus tells us to "Remain in My love" Relationships should be built around the love for God and the want to follow His command of loving others. Once we realize the true, unfailing love of God then we can find someone to share it with spiritually or romantically. The love that Jesus Christ has for us is nothing we can comprehend. Everything that God does is filled with His love, and His love is everywhere. He is the reason we can love because He gives us His love to share with each other. Without it, we would be evil hearted full of sin. With too much of it directed in the wrong direction, idols will form so I tell you this: stray from idols so you shall not forfeit the gift of God's love and grace. Embrace His love and never let it go.
